Geraldine (Humes) Reed, 70, of Milburn Court, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 4:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in the Elkhart Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Reed was born on July 14, 1932, in South Bend, Ind., and resided her lifetime in the Michiana area.

In the month of December, she married Lester Reed, who preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bruce in 1988. Geraldine retired in 1996 from the South Bend Medical Foundation, having worked in the laboratory as a technician. She is survived by four daughters, Judy R. Parish of Mishawaka, Mary M. (James) Isom of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Rose M. (John) Freel of Elkhart, Ind., Linda Humes of Chicago, Ill.; a son, Dennis (Debbie) Humes of Mishawaka; a sister, Joan Nally of South Bend; a brother, Douglas Bruce of Tyner, Ind.; and by 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished.

Visitation hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road and Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in the funeral home, with Rev. Gerrod Hampel officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Cremation to follow services. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, 108 N. Main St., Suite 107, South Bend, IN 46601-1236. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the family of Geraldine M. Reed.
