Julie E. Reames, 55, of Kenilworth Road, South Bend, Ind., died following an extended illness at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, in Our Lady of Peace Hospital, South Bend.

She was born Feb. 20, 1947, in Kewanee, Ill., to Alfred and Emma Lottie Etta Marie (Noe) Gotheridge.

In Neponset, Ill., she graduated from Neponset Middle High School in 1965 and, later that year, on June 26, she married Thomas L. Reames. The Reames then moved to South Bend in 1966.

Mrs. Reames attended Indiana University, South Bend, and Southwestern Michigan College. She retired after 22 years of employment with the Northern Indiana State Developmental Center, South Bend.

She was a member of First Church of God and the Michiana Car Club, both in Niles, Mich.

An avid bowler, Mrs. Reames was on various leagues in Niles for 20 years. She enjoyed baking and gardening.

Mrs. Reames is survived by her husband, Thomas; a daughter, Gail (David A.) Hancher of South Bend; two grandsons, Alexander and Kenneth Hancher of South Bend; four sisters, Arlene Gray of Kewanee, Ind., Maye Verbout and Bonnie Norin, both of Neponset, and Ruth Morrow of Niles; and by two brothers, Arthur Kemerling of Neponset and Roy Kemerling of Prairie Du Chien, Wis.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. (Mich. time) Thursday, Sept. 5, in First Church of God, with the Reverend Robert E. Jackson officiating.

Entombment will be at Saint Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. The committal services will conclude with the hymn "Amazing Grace" by bagpiper Richard Mao.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Mich. time) in the Halbritter Funeral Home, 615 East Main Street, Niles.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
