SOUTH BEND - Dr. Richard S. Reamer Jr., 73, of West Marion
Street, South Bend, died Tuesday in his home. Dr. Reamer was born
April 24, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Richard S. and Helen
Theresa (Hayes) Reamer, who preceded him in death.
Richard graduated from Notre Dame in 1955 and the University of Vienna, Austria, with a MD degree in May 1967. He spent his life in psychiatry, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. He was a daily attendee of Faith Hope & Charity Chapel, downtown South Bend, St. Hedwig's, St. Patrick's and St. Joseph churches for many years, telling people he was a "triple domer" with his three degrees and being called "Uncle Doctor," and fascinating stories of his stays in Africa, Asia, Europe and Hawaii. He had friends of all ages and backgrounds and was among the first Americans to re-enter China after Nixon's visit. He loved to read, tell good jokes. He always quoted his father "a thousand winters is worth one spring." His winters now at a end, he his enjoying an eternal spring.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame. A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, in the Sacred Heart Parish Crypt located below the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the Notre Dame campus. Interment will follow at a later date at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Bellville, Illinois. There will be no visitation. The Hickey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3516 E. Jefferson, Blvd., South Bend, handled arrangements.
