NEW CARLISLE - Evelyn L. Ray, 81, of
Miller's Merry Manor in New Carlisle, Ind., formerly of County
Line Road, New Carlisle, died at 10:10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, in
the nursing home. Mrs. Ray was employed for nine years with the
New Prairie United School Corporation up until 1982. She was a
supervisor in the cafeteria at New Prairie High School. She was
born on Sept. 3, 1917, to Charles and Eliza (McNeal) Wheatbrook
in Rolling Prairie, Ind., and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs.
Ray was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Eliza
Wheatbrook; a grandson, Karl Wickizer, who died in 1993; two
sisters, Ruth Geiyer and Lottie Dunham; and by a
brother, Randall Wheatbrook.
On June 18, 1935, as Evelyn L. Wheatbrook,
she married Carl Robert Ray in New Carlisle. He survives. She is
also survived by two daughters, Nancy Wickizer of New
Carlisle and Janice (Arnold) MacDonald of McAllister,
Okla.; four grandchildren, Linda (Edson) Cates, Lea Anne
(Christopher) Neiman, John (Christine) Clark and
Scott MacDonald; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Fack
of Austin, Texas, and Mildred Costello of LaPorte, Ind.;
and by a brother, Charles (Dorothy) Wheatbrook of Rolling
Prairie, Ind. She was a member of the New Carlisle Community
Church, was a fifty-year charter member of the New Carlisle
Extension Club, and was active with the New Carlisle Fire
Department Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
(E.S.T.) on Tuesday, Jan. 12, in the New Carlisle Community
Church, with Rev. Michael Donahue officiating. Interment will
follow in New Carlisle Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and
6 to 8 p.m. (E.S.T.) today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S.
Filbert Street, New Carlisle, and from one hour prior to funeral
services at the New Carlisle Community Church on Tuesday.
