Dewey C. Ray, 71, of Al-Vir Circle, Osceola,
Ind., died of natural causes in his home on Friday, March 21. Mr.
Ray was born Sept. 1, 1931, to Dewey R. and Obie (Richardson) Ray
in Tippah County, Miss. His parents preceded him in death.
On July 1, 1950, Mr. Ray married the former
Virginia Geraldine Michael in Tyronza, Ark. Mrs. Ray
preceded him in death, passing away Dec. 6, 2000. Mr. Ray was
also preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin Ray and R. Gerald
Ray; and by a sister, Daphine Ray. He is survived by his sons,
Randy Ray and his wife, Yvonne of Goshen, Ind., Gary Ray and his
wife, Michelle of Mishawaka, Ind., Richard Ray and Timothy Ray,
both of Osceola; a daughter, Rebecca Schrock and her
husband, Robert of Osceola; three brothers, William H. Ray of
Jonesboro, Ark., C. Lamar Ray of Little Rock, Ark., and G.
Derwood Ray of Goshen; and by a sister, Oleen Walton of
Jonesboro, Ark.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to
8 p.m. Monday, March 24, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home,
Osceola. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 25,
in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home by the Reverend Mike Wagner of
the West Side Assembly of God, Elkhart, Ind., with interment to
follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, where a
graveside military service will be conducted by VFW Post #360 of
Mishawaka.
Mr. Ray served his country in the U.S. Army,
and was honorably discharged in 1949. He was the owner and
operator of Ray's Refrigeration for over 20 years, retiring in
1990. Memberships include the West Side Assembly of God in
Elkhart, VFW Post #360, Mishawaka, and American Legion Post #308
in Osceola. Memorial donations may be made to the Meals on Wheels
program, Hospice of St. Joseph County, or to the American
Diabetes Association.
