John W. Rasmussen

John W. Rasmussen, 87, of South Bend,
Ind., passed away of natural causes on Friday, Oct. 25, in
Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was born April 18, 1915, in
South Bend, to Ole and Adel (Whittman) Rasmussen.
On Nov. 15, 1947, he married his wife of 54
years, Beatrice, who survives. He is also survived by his son,
John W. "Jack" Rasmussen (Susan) of Columbus, Ohio;
along with several nieces and nephews. John worked the bulk of
his life in the retail clothing business at the former Rasmussen
Men's Shop, a store his father Ole started in 1931 at 106 S. Main
St. He attended the former Colfax and Central High School and
graduated in 1937 from the School of Business Administration,
Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind.
That same year his brother Bill and he
entered the men's wear business. John was inducted into the Army
in 1943, and after receiving his OCS training at Camp Lee, Va.,
he was sent to England where he remained until the end of the
War. Mr. Rasmussen was a life member of the B.P.O.E. #235,
Indiana University Club, South Bend, South Bend Lodge 294
F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, the Morris Park
Country Club, the former Indiana Club and the University Club.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30
a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N.
William Street. Entombment will be at Highland Mausoleum. In lieu
of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American
Heart Association.
