WALKERTON - Irma E. Rasmussen, 83, of 206 Carolina St., died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday in Michiana Community Hospital, South Bend, following an illness. Mrs. Rasmussen was a retired teacher and a librarian in South Bend. She was born June 12, 1911, in Walkerton, and was a lifelong resident.

On Jan. 24, 1948, in Nappanee, as Irma E. Winner, she married Chester Rasmussen. He preceded her in death. Surviving are two nieces, Patricia Shaffer of Walkerton and Leigh High of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and two nephews, Stephen Burch of Japan and Daniel Denaut of Plymouth.

She was a Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II. She was a member of the Walkerton American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 189 and Walkerton United Methodist Church.

Memorial services will be conducted at a later date. Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walkerton Library or the Walkerton United Methodist Church.
