SOUTH BEND - Robert Ranschaert, 81, passed away on
Thursday, Sept. 6, at 2:22 p.m. in Memorial Hospital, with his
family by his side. He was born on November 15, 1925, in South
Bend to the late Maurice and Elizabeth (Kovatch)
Ranschaert Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brother,
Maurice Ranschaert Jr.
On February 15, 1947, he married Gabrielle Lambert
in South Bend. She survives, along with their children, Maureen
(Peter) Metcalf of South Bend and Brian (Diane) Ranschaert
of Holland, MI; three grandchildren, Ryan Ranschaert, Megan Wroblewski
and Dana Woolfrey; and two great-grandchildren, Heidi and
Emily. Robert served in the United States Army and received a
Purple Heart after being injured during World War II. In 1991, he
retired after 42 years, as a fireman for the City of South Bend.
He was a member of the Indiana Firefighters Association and a
parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday,
September. 10 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road,
South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11
in Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at
Resurrection Gardens, St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
