Sister M. Elizabeth Clare CSC, 79, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday in the convent. She was born in Alexandria, Va. on Aug. 9, 1911 as Ruby Virginia Purcell. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on June 22, 1931; was received as a novice on Jan. 6, 1932; and professed her vows on Jan. 6, 1934.She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was an elementary school teacher assigned to schools from 1934 to 1973 in Washington DC; Alexandria, Md.; Greenbelt, Md.; and Columbus, Ohio. She retired to St. Angela Hall, Kensington, Md. from 1973 to 1987.

Services will be at 3:30 a.m. Friday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, with burial following in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, both at St. Mary’s. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday in the convent parlors where a wake will be at 5 p.m.
