GRANGER - Edith Elizabeth Profit of Granger, IN, died at 2:30
a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, in her residence following an
illness. Mrs. Profit is survived by a daughter, Vera B. Profit,
with whom she lived. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Ferdinand and Stefanie (Hankus) Kratochwil, and by a sister,
Helga Dunay. In 1953 Edith emigrated to Fernie, B.C., with her
husband and daughter. She left behind her parents and her sister
as well as her beloved Vienna. Some four-and-a-half years later,
the family moved to Aurora, Illinois, as her husband had received
an offer from Caterpillar Tractor. He worked there as a design
engineer until his unexpected death in 1970. She could not have
anticipated becoming a widow so soon. She had begun working for
the Ohio Casualty Company as a policy writer a few years earlier
and continued in their employ when relocating to Indiana. Though
she thoroughly enjoyed her long stint with the Ohio and made many
friends there, when she chose to volunteer at the Francis Branch
Library, her circle of friends grew larger still. Her birthday
parties were marvelous occasions of conviviality, filled with
warmth and good cheer. But then virtually every day brought some
sign of genuine affection. When this or that setback marred the
recent years, many, many cards and notes filled her mailbox at
regular intervals. These kindnesses will never be forgotten. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. today,
May 4th, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the
University of Notre Dame. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove
Cemetery, Notre Dame. There will be no visitation. Memorial
contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, is
assisting the family with arrangements. Family and friends may
leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
