Sala Price

Feb. 1, 1924 - April 1, 2008

South Bend Tribune 4/4/2008
SOUTH BEND - Sala Price, a native of Poland, was a Holocaust survivor, who met her husband Abe Price following World War II. They met, fell in love, and married within two weeks - and celebrated their new life together each day for over 62 years - a true love story. They were devoted to each other and to their family.

They came to the United States in 1951, first to Goshen, Indiana, then to South Bend, Indiana where they raised their three sons, Herbert, Harry and Sidney. In South Bend, she was active in Sinai Synagogue and its sisterhood. In 1987, Sala and Abe retired to Naples, Florida, where they have been active members of Temple Shalom and were founding members of the Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida. Sala has been a lifetime member of Hadassah. An extraordinary cook, Sala loved baking while making everything look effortless. Sala enjoyed ceramics and art and was an avid bridge player. People were drawn to her because of her genuine love of life. Her positive outlook was contagious. Everyone remembers Sala singing "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning," and she became an instant friend to everyone she met.

Sala will be sadly missed by her dedicated and loving husband, Abe, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. Sala always said: "Man makes plans...G-d smiles;" and "The first 100 years are the toughest." She is survived by her husband, Abe of Naples; her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Herbert and Pattie Price of Logansport, Indiana, Harry and Lorie Price of Los Altos Hills, California, and Dr. Sidney and Patti Price of Dublin, Ohio; grandchild, David and wife Jenny Price; and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Nicholas, Meisha and Brady; grandchild, Dr. Monica and husband Kevin Kowaleski; and grandchild, Jacalyn and husband Wayne Pollock; and grandchildren, Carleigh, Mindy, Jeffrey and Jonathan Price.

Funeral services will be held at Temple Shalom, 4630 Pine Ridge Road, Naples, FL 34119 on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., with graveside service to follow at Palm Royale Cemetery. Shiva will be observed beginning Sunday Evening. In honor of our Jewish tradition. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Sala's memory to the Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida, 4760 Tamiami Trail N, Naples, Florida 34103 or to Temple Shalom of Naples at the above address.
