NEW CARLISLE - Grace Powers, 96, of Hamilton Grove Retirement Community, formerly of South Bend, died at noon Friday in the nursing home. Mrs. Powers was born Sept. 3, 1897, in Johnson, Ind., and lived in this area since 1929, coming from Johnson.

On Nov. 24, 1915, in Johnson, as Grace Garrett, she married Cecil Powers. He died in 1971. Surviving are a son, Raymond of South Bend; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter. She was a member of Ridgedale Presbyterian Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
