OSCEOLA - Watt Douglas Powell, 73, of 54515 Buckeye Road, died Friday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend.Survivors include his wife, Betty J.; a daughter, Melodye Zehrung of Elkhart; two sons, Kenneth of Ione, Calif, and Rev. Terry of Elkhart; two sisters, Olie Hall of Martinez, G., and Bernice Mallard of Tampa, Fla.;  and three brothers, Morris, Roy and Wallace, all of Tampa. services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mark Missionary Church, Mishawaka. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Warner Funeral Home.

Watt Douglas Powell, 73, of 54515 Buckeye Road, Osceola, Ind., passed away unexpectedly at 1:41 p.m. on Friday, at St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, following cardiac surgery earlier that week. Mr. Powell was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Bainbridge, Ga., and had lived in Osceola since 1949, coming from Tampa, Fla.

 

On Feb. 12, 1945, in Tampa, he married Betty J. Gentner, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Melodye Zehrung of Elkhart, Ind.; two sons, Kenneth Powell of Ione, Calif., and Rev. Terry Powell of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Olie Hall of Martinez, Ga., and Bernice Mallard of Tampa; and three brothers, Morris, Roy and Wallace Powell, all of Tampa.

 

Mr. Powell was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Excel Industries in 1980 after 29 years of service.

 

Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, at the Warner Funeral Home, 1109 Lincolnway West, Osceola, and may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mark Missionary Church, 11805 Loughlin Drive, MIshawaka, Ind., with Pastor John Gregory officiating. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Mr. Powell was a member of St. Mark Missionary Church. Donations may be made to the church's building fund.
