James Basil Powell

James Basil Powell, 83, formerly of
Lincoln Way West, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away following an
illness at 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Country Side Place,
Mishawaka. He was born in Sebree, Ky., to Fray and Henry Powell,
who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by three
brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Powell had lived in Mishawaka since
1939. He worked at the Wheelabrator Corporation before being
inducted in the Army in 1942. After being discharged in 1945, he
owned and operated Powell's Service Station for many years. He
was employed by the City of Mishawaka Street Department in 1976,
and was later named commissioner of the motor pool, the job he
held until he suffered a stroke on Sept. 4, 1987. He is survived
by many nieces and nephews, including a niece, Dottie Frasier
of Mishawaka.
Friends of Mr. Powell will be received from
5 to 8 p.m. today in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North
Main Street, Mishawaka. Burial services will take place at
Springdale Cemetery, Sebree, Ky.
