SOUTH BEND - Gene M. Poloway, 71, passed away at 9 a.m.
Tuesday, April 29, in his residence. Mr. Poloway was born on Jan.
2, 1937, in Detroit, MI, and resided in the Michiana area since
1995, coming from Lombard, IL.
On June 27, 1957, in Detroit, MI, he married
the former, Joyce L. Beattie who survives. Also surviving
are two daughters, Terri L. (Tony) Pierce of Grand Rapids,
MI, and Cindy J. (Rick) Gilbert of Plano, TX; four
grandchildren whom he loved and cherished, Diana and Linda Pierce
and Dan and Ben Gilbert; and his sister, Joanne Glance of
Plymouth, MI. Mr. Poloway retired from the US Postal Service in
1997, after many years of service. Gene was a veteran of the US
Air Force and was very proud to have served his country. Gene was
a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who loved his family
deeply, as they did him. He will always be cherished by his
loving family and all who had the opportunity to know him during
his wonderful life journey. The family requests that all memorial
contributions be made to the American
Heart Association or to the New Military Honor Park and
Museum, P.O. Box 3356, South bend, IN 46619.
Visitation hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
today, May 2 in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest
Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana
23, South Bend. Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 3
and will be private, family only. The HANLEY & Sons
"Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements
and services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt
prayers to the Poloway family.
