SOUTH BEND - Catherine A. (Kay) Pilot, 91, died of natural causes on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, in the company of her family and friends at Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center. Kay was born on October 3, 1916, in Georgetown, IL, to the late Wright and Othelia (Hubbard) Morris and lived in South Bend since 1946. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Howard, Homer, and Richard Morris.

 

On August 9, 1942, Kay married Dr. Thomas R. Pilot, who survives. She is also survived by her three children, Thomas R. (Cynthia) Pilot, Jr. of South Bend, Karol (John) Kintz of Granger, and Marianne Pilot (Dennis Osborne) of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving are her five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Kathryn (Jason) and William Joseph Scarlett of Knoxville, TN; John P. (Paige) and Kathryn Paige Kintz, Jr. of Tiburon, CA; Larelise Kintz of Boise, ID; Kristian Kintz of Chicago, IL; and Allyson (Timothy), Kristian, and Gabriel Lodholz of Eagan, MN; two nieces; and a nephew.

 

Kay was both a homemaker and office manager for her husband's optometry practice. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame, and a member of the Christ Child Society and Morris Park Country Club. Kay was an avid golfer, excellent dancer, and accomplished artist. She received advanced education and training in art at the South Bend Regional Art Center, Indiana University South Bend, and Saint Mary's College. Kay was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was deeply spiritual, ever cheerful, and very kind.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2008, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, with Rev. Robert J. Austgen, C.S.C. and Rev. John P. Riley, C.S.C. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 8 to 9:30 a.m., prior to the Mass, in the Basilica. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame.
