SOUTH BEND - F.T. Bud Piech, 93,
residing in South Bend, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Saturday, Nov.
15th, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born August
17, 1915, in South Bend, the son of Frank Thomas and Anna (Bykowski)
Piech, and had remained a lifelong resident of this community. He
proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII,
having enlisted on June 18, 1945. He was honorably discharged
March 20, 1946. Through his service to his country Bud joined the
American Legion and was a life member of Post 365, North Liberty,
life member of V.F.W. Post 1954, North Liberty, life member of
DAV, Plymouth, member of 40 & 8 Voiture #249, and held many
offices in each of these organizations, and devoted many years in
service to other veterans. He was also a member of Elks Lodge
#2548, Plymouth, IN. He retired in 1975 after 35 years with the
Bendix Corp. On June 25, 1951, in LaPorte, IN, he was united in
marriage to Anne M. Beyer, who passed away on March 17,
1977. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Winkowski,
and three brothers, Edward, Robert and Thomas. Then in 1985, in
LaPorte, he was married to Yvonne LeDoux Komp. His loving
wife Yvonne of 23 years survives him. Also surviving are three
daughters, Georgia (Phillip) Niswonger and Lesa Piech,
both of South Bend, and Nancy Moser of Middletown, MD; two
sons, F. Thomas (Colleen) Piech Jr. of South Bend and Timothy
Frank (Joan) Piech of Koontz Lake; a stepdaughter, Joyce Flaim
of South Bend: two stepsons, Jeff Komp of Osceola and Jay Komp of
South Bend. 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and a
sister, Anne Hoffman of South Bend, survive Bud as well.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street. Rev. Michael Winkowski will officiate. Private graveside services with military honors will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home where members of 40 & 8, American Legion and VFW will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Bud Piech's memory be made to The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
