SOUTH BEND - In the late afternoon of Monday, January 11, 2010,
Mary Alice Phillips was called home at Ironwood Health and
Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Phillips, 79, had been a longtime
resident of East Wayne Street, South Bend, Indiana. Mary Alice
was born in Evansville, Indiana, to Reverend James and Clara
(Morton) Tucker on January 13, 1930. In her early adolescence,
her mother passed away and she was raised by her sister, who
remained by her side her entire lifetime. In 1951, coming from
Evansville, she relocated to South Bend. She met and married
Marshall Phillips on December 29, 1951. He preceded her in death
on May 29, 2006. Mrs. Phillips leaves to mourn her loss one
daughter, Sherlinn (Pastor Wayne) Watson of South Bend, Indiana;
two sons, Dr. Trent Tucker of Washington, D.C., and Kevin
(LaDale) Phillips of Atlanta, Georgia; two grandchildren,
Christopher Perry of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Mary
Elizabeth Watson of South Bend; special nieces, Bernita Johnson
and Debbie Phillips; one nephew, Gilbert Miller, all of South
Bend; and special neighbors, Phil and Bill; along with other
relatives and friends. Preceding her in death along with her
parents and husband, were two sisters, O'Tina Western and Irene
Kerr, and a brother, Gilbert Miller. Funeral services for Mrs.
Phillips will be held at noon Saturday, January 16, 2010, at
Jesus is the Rock Church, 52248 Laurel Road, South Bend, with
Pastor Wayne Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel
Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call in the church
one hour prior to the services. Arrangements have been entrusted
to Alford's Mortuary where friends may e-mail messages of

family.
