Emma L. (Chapman) Peppers, 88, of
Bell Street, South Bend, Ind., died Monday in Saint Joseph's
Regional Medical Center. Emma was born on June 7, 1910 in
Covington, Tenn. and had lived in South Bend most of her life.
On Nov. 26, 1927 in Covington, she married
Rufus ''Pa'' Peppers, who died on Aug. 15, 1984. She is survived
by five daughters, Dora Jeanne Ceccanese of Fort Wayne,
Ind., Kathryn Hoggard of Buchanan, Tenn., Dorothy Mickey
of Vandalia, Mich., Lorraine Weiss and Erma Riedel,
both of Niles, Mich.; six sons, Rufus Peppers, Jr. of Paris,
Tenn., Richard Peppers of Indianapolis, Ind., and Lee Peppers,
Walter Peppers, Doyle Peppers and Larry Peppers, all of South
Bend; and by 39 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many
great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the
Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road with the Rev. Donald
MacMillan, pastor of Mayflower Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial
contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
