MISHAWAKA - Betty Jean Gill Penrod 74, passed away peacefully in
Elkhart Hospice House after battling several life-threatening
illnesses for many years. She is survived by her daughter,
Cynthia L. Mueller; stepdaughters, Vernia Penrod and Jena Penrod;
three grandchildren, Stephanie D. Wecht, Joshua G. Wecht and
Howard C. Muelle; one great-grandchild, Alexis L. Wecht; and four
brothers and sisters, Richard Gill, Shirley Young, Carol Kline
and James "Jimmy" Gill. She was preceded in death by
two brothers, Ralph K. Gill Jr. and Robert Gill. Also preceding
her in death were a sister, Mary Foos, and her parents, Ralph K.
Gill Sr. and Mable Gill. Betty owned "Betty's Avenue
Restaurant," located on the corner of Main and Mishawaka
Avenues in Mishawaka. The business opened in 1964, and she
operated it with the help of her mother, Mable Gill, as well as
Alice Overly, Barbara Newton, Beverly Warren and Eva Clark, all
very close, dear, lifelong friends. She closed the restaurant in
1968 for a big move to Arizona. Funeral services for Betty will
be held at Willow Creek United Methodist Church, 14010 Jefferson
Road, Mishawaka, with Rev. Milton Gould officiating. Immediately
following the services, the family would like to share lunch with
Betty's friends in the church basement. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the family to defray funeral expenses
and also to Hospice House of Elkhart.

She was also married to Roscoe Lee Mc Cartney in 1953 & Lewis Bohannon 1958, and was proceeded in death by a sister Betty Jean Gill who died in infancy in 1934
