Ruth I. Pedevilla

June 27, 1914 – July 27, 1999

Mrs. Ruth I. Pedevilla, 85, a resident of South Bend IN, died in her home of natural causes at 4:30pm on Tuesday, July 27.

She was born on June 27, 1914, in Bellaire MI to Seneth and William Wilson.  On June 18, 1931, in South Bend, she married John A. Pedevilla, who preceded her in death on July 8, 1968.  She was also preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Pedevilla was the store manager and Outreach Coordinator of St. Vincent DePaul Society.  She retired in 1976 after 15 years.  She was also an associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Frances since 1983, a member of the board of Near Northwest Neighborhood Inc., president of Holy Cross Church Rosary and Altar Society, a member of the Circle of Mercy and founder of Natural Family Planning in South Bend.

She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren.  She is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Juan and Virginia Pedevilla of Corona CA, Roland and Sharon Pedevilla of Dallas TX, David and Karen Pedevilla of Murietta CA, Pamela and Bill Shriftman of Studio City CA, Ricardo Pedevilla of San Francisco CA, and Dolores and John Wynen, G. Chris and Karen Pedevilla, and Linda and John O’Brien, all of South Bend; and by her 27 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5pm and 6 to 8pm on Friday, July 30, 1999, in the McGann Funeral Home, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend, where a wake service will be held at 7pm.  Funeral services will be at 10:30am on Saturday, July 31, 1999, in the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1020 Wilber St., South Bend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Pedevilla may be made to Hospice of St Joseph County or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
