Michael J. Pecsi, 88, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 9:40 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, in Regency Place of South Bend.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1911, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Theresa (Takacs) Pecsi, and was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Pecsi retired after eight years of service with the O'Hara Lincoln Mercury automobile dealership. He was also previously employed for 15 years with the Jordan Ford body shop.
On June 5, 1933, he married Irene V. Dombkowski in South Bend. She passed away on June 1, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. (Michael) Darnell of Kenosha, Wis., and Darlene A. (David) Drake of Kenosha; two sons, Michael S. (Mary Alice) Pecsi of Milwaukee, Wis., and Ronald J. (Mary Kay) Pecsi of South Bend; and by 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Pecsi was a member of Holy Cross Parish, the South Bend Democratic Club, was a life member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #435, and was a former member of the Golden Cluster of St. Hedwig Catholic Church. Mr. Pecsi had also held various offices at the William Penn Association, was an avid softball player during the 1940s and 1950s, and was an avid bowler during the 1940s through the 1960s.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, in The Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Rev. Stephen J. Sedlock, C.S.C., officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 27, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m.
