Morgan Peck

SOUTH BEND - Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Morgan Peck, 87, of San Antonio, TX, passed away with his wife, Carolyn at his side on April 2, 2009. Morgan was born November 26, 1921, in Grand Chain, IL, to the late William H. and Dora Belle Peck. Also preceding him in death were his first wife, Alma (Bergman) Peck, second daughter, Karen Sears; second wife, Dorothy Peck; brothers, William and Roy Peck; sisters, Fern Secrest and Francis Smith. Morgan served in the United States Army from 23 June 1942 to 21 Nov. 1945, conducting training with Btry C, 128th AAA at Fort Bliss, TX and serving in the European Theater of Operations during World War II with Gen. George S. Patton's 3rd Army. He mustered out as a S/SGT and his awards include the Army Good Conduct and World War II Victory Medals. Morgan came to South Bend, IN, after the war and raised his family on the city's West Side. Five daughters, Ellen (Paul/deceased) Robinson of Buena Vista, CO, Karen (deceased) (Leonard) Sears, Kay (Rick Jones/deceased) Peck and Marion (Richard) Howard of South Bend, IN, and Delo (Anthony) Studebaker of Colorado Springs, CO were born during his marriage to Alma. During this period he was self-employed in the TV repair business, as a mechanic for Gates Chevrolet and with the South Bend Waste Water Treatment Plant from which he retired in February 1987 after 25 years of services. Morgan joined the New Apostolic Church in the late 1940s, or early 1950s. He remained faithful to the church and his parent congregations for the remainder of his life. His wife, Carolyn; his four daughters, Ellen, Kay, Marion and Delo; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, survive Morgan. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Reggie Odom, Tara Branchizio, Weslee Odom of TX, Ilona (Boots) Smerikanich of AZ, Rose Marie Perry and Michael Fuzy of IN with 10 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren. He will be laid to rest in Lower Salem, IL, next to his mother and father on May 2, 2009. A memorial service will be held for Morgan on May 4, 2009 at the New Apostolic Church, 5602 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend, IN. The family will receive friends and guests from 6 to 6:45 p.m. with memorial service at 7 p.m. A fellowship period will follow.
