GRANGER - Alvin E. "Al" Paul Sr., 85, of
Granger, passed away in his home at 1:26 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27,
2008. Al was born on December 16, 1922, in South Bend, to the
late Harry and Mabel (Bahney) Paul. On June 16, 1951, in
Roseland, IN, he married Helen Van Dorn, who passed away
July 13, 2008. He was also preceded in death by one son, Alvin E.
Paul Jr., and two brothers, Harry and Guy Paul. Al is survived by
one daughter, Mickey A. Csiti of Elkhart; two
grandchildren, Mike Csiti and Joey Csiti; and four
great-grandchildren. Al proudly served his country during WWII in
the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was a B-17 mechanic. He was
involved in the Battle of the Bulge. In his younger days, he
enjoyed racing cars and motorcycles at Playland Park with his
brothers. He also built an Indy 500 racecar. He worked for
Studebaker for several years and retired from Hull Lift Truck,
where he was a mechanic. He belonged to American Legion Post 308
of Osceola and the Army 8th Air Force Historical Society.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, with two hours of visitation prior to the services. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion or to the V.F.W.
