Joe C. Patterson

July 14, 1910 - July 20, 1997

Joe C. Patterson, 87, residing on Oak Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 2:05 a.m. on Sunday, July 20, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend.

Mr. Patterson was born on July 14, 1910, in Flora, Ind., to Herman and Myrtle (Sauders) Patterson, and had lived in this area most of his life.

He wintered in Largo, Fla., and spent summers in Sheffield, Pa., for the past 20 years.

On Feb. 5, 1944, in Aberdine, Md., he married Marjorie Virginia O'Shea, who preceded him in death on July 28, 1996.

He is survived by four daughters, Myrna K. Springman of Clearwater, Fla., Norma DiGirolamo, Carolyn Shaffer and Linda McCune, all of South Bend; three sons, Jack L. Shipley and Tom Patterson, both of South Bend, and Robert D. Watkins of Atlanta, Ga.; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and by a sister, LaVonne of South Bend.

Mr. Patterson was a self-employed farmer and was also employed with the Bendix Corporation for 45 years.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the Harris Prairie Church of Christ, Granger, Ind. Rev. Dan Crosley will officiate. Cremation has taken place, and burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend.
