SOUTH BEND - Carl E. Patterson Sr., 72, of California Street, died at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Medical Center of natural causes. Mr. Patterson retired in 1978 from AlliedSignal after 30 years of service. He was born June 29, 1922, in Louisville, Ky., and lived in South Bend most of his life.

On May 27, 1978, in South Bend, he married Betty June Manley Grey. She survives, with a daughter, Jacqueline D. Hommon of South Bend; four sons, Carl Jr. of North Liberty, and Jeff, Terry and Roger, all of South Bend; a stepson, Jack A. Grey Jr. of New Albany, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a stepsister, Mary Allen Hojara of South Bend. He was a veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Colorado. He was a member of Bendix Retirees Club and Michigan Steelheaders Association.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
