Elizabeth J. "Betty" Parsons,
86, of Bridgeview Trail, South Bend, died Wednesday, September
20, 2006, in the Milton Home here in South Bend. Betty was born
on May 27, 1920, in Philadelphia, PA, to Thomas and Susan (Johnstone)
McCrea.
On June 29, 1946, in Philadelphia, she
married Robert L. Parsons, M.D. Robert survives along with three
daughters, Faith (Timothy) Alford of St. Pete Beach, FL,
Sue (John) Shirrell of Granger, IN, and Pamela (Douglas) Callantine
of Abington, PA. She is lovingly remembered by her five
grandchildren, Jason (Kristin) Shirrell and Jeffrey (Tierney)
Shirrell, both of Indianapolis, Lindsay (Michael) O'Reilly
of Cherryhill, NJ, Darcey Callantine of Fort Washington,
PA, and Duncan Callantine of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Betty received her R.N. diploma from
Presbyterian Nursing School in Philadelphia. She was a member of
First Presbyterian Church in South Bend where she had served as a
member of the choir and had played the piano for the children's
choir. She also served as camp nurse at Red Bud Trail Retreat,
the camp ministry of the church. Betty was a member of P.E.O.,
Chapter BX, and was a member of the South Bend Symphonic Choir.
Memorial services will be held Saturday,
September 23, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church
of South Bend. Entombment will take place in Riverview Mausoleum,
South Bend. Friends will be received in the church parlor
following the memorial services. The family wishes to extend
their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Milton Home for
their care of Betty. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made to Camp Ray Bird, 25765 West Edison, South Bend, IN
46628; or to the First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax Ave.,
South Bend, IN 46601. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, is in
charge of arrangements.
