Dale B. Parshall

Dr. Dale B. Parshall, 80, of Naples, Fla., formerly of South Bend and Elkhart, died on Tuesday, Jan. 16. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Naples; two daughters, Patricia Bucklen of Bristol and Katheryn Weaver of Watertown, Wis.; two brothers, Byron Parshall of Mishawaka, IN and Dr. William Parshall of Eugene, Ore; and by three grandchildren of Bristol.
He was born in Chesaning, Mich., on May 13, 1920, to Dale I and Katheryn VanDorn Parshall. They moved to South Bend where his father was manager of the Singer Sewing Company. He graduated from South Bend Central High School and then attended University of Michigan for pre-med and medical school. On Aug. 5, 1944, he married Margaret McDaniel of Pickens, S.C.
He served in the Army after World War II and was in charge of the healthcare of returning POW's from Germany at Fort Benning, Ga. He then served at the 376th Station Hospital in Tachikawa , Japan for 1 ½ years in charge of the Radiology Department. He received his MS in Radiology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where his two daughters were born.
He moved his family to South Bend in 1952, where he helped organize Radiology Inc. He introduced the use of radioactive isotopes in this area, served as secretary and president of the Indiana Roentgen Society and was chief of staff at Elkhart General Hospital in 1964-65. He was a long-standing member of Rotary Club and was president of the Elkhart Noon Rotary in 1964-65. He was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an elder, taught Sunday School and worked with the Boy Scouts. He was an Eagle Scout.
He was a member of Elcona Country Club and was an avid golfer and enthusiastic member of their Curling Club. He and his wife enjoyed curling at other clubs in the United States and internationally.
He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1969, and retired from his medical practice in 1984. He and Margaret moved to Naples, in 1987, but kept a home in Bristol until 1997.
A memorial service was held in Naples on Friday, Jan. 19, in Moorings Presbyterian Church. Another Memorial service will be held in May in Elkhart at a date to be announced.
The Hodges Funeral Chapel, Naples, handled the arrangements.
