Margaret Virginia Pankow

SOUTH BEND - Margaret Virginia (Davis) Pankow, 80, a
member of the South Bend community for 54 years, died on May 29,
2008, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center as a
result of respiratory problems. She was born to Winifred Wright Davis
and Claude Rubin Davis in Boise, Idaho. She graduated from Boise
High School and the University of Washington at Seattle,
receiving a bachelor degree in English in 1949. She worked for
the U.S. Navy after completing her college degree, where she met
her husband, James H. Pankow. They married on November 8, 1952.
He preceded her in death. They had six children, Laura Jean
Pankow, Scott David (Rebecca Richardson) Pankow, James Stephen
(Lisa Casper) Pankow, Mark William Pankow, John Robert Pankow and
Charles Christopher Pankow. They survive along with three
grandchildren, Erika, Zachary and Alex. Her brother, Robert Davis
(San Diego, CA), also survives. Margaret was very active in the
South Bend community. Her affiliations included being a past
president of the PEO Sisterhood (Chapter N), and she was a member
of the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni and Panhellenic Associations,
volunteering for the Red Cross, providing Braille texts for
students and other community consumers, and performing numerous
volunteering functions for the Episcopal Cathedral of St. James.
She was a member of the Junior League of South Bend, the South
Bend Symphony Guild, and Daughters of the American Revolution
(DAR).
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2008, in the Episcopal Cathedral of St. James, 117 N. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, IN 46601. Visitation will precede the services from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cathedral of St. James, 117 N. Lafayette Blvd., South Bend, IN 46601.
