NEW CARLISLE - Jan Oudhuis, 77, of
8733 N. County Road 700 E., died of natural causes about 9 a.m.
Saturday in his home. Mr. Oudhuis was employed by Allis-Chalmers
for 18 years as a timekeeper. He was born May 11, 1919, in
Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands, and lived in New Carlisle for 46
years.
On June 12, 1946, in The Netherlands, he
married Eleanor Schlueter. She survives with two
daughters, Mariette Rekowski and Denise Oudhuis, both of
New Carlisle; five sons, John of Sweden, Arnold of LaPorte,
Bernard and Phillip, both of New Carlisle, and George of Rolling
Prairie; 12 grandchildren; six sisters, Elizabeth DeLetter
of LaPorte, and Annie Boekel, Pauline Oudhuis, Gerie Jaspers,
Trion Overtoom and Rie Heijne, all of The Netherlands; and
two brothers, Siem and Jack, both of The Netherlands. He was a
member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaPorte, and served as an
usher and was a member of the Christian Family Movement.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the
church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call
from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday in
Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, where a wake will be at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to LaPorte County Visiting
Nurses Association Hospice.
