SOUTH BEND - Gertrude Julia Oswald, 80, a homemaker and
lifelong resident of South Bend, died Monday, April 14, 2008, at
Miller's Merry Manor of Walkerton, where she had been a resident
for the last several months. Born August 19, 1927, to Frank and
Marguerita (Szabo) Keresztes, she was a graduate of
Central High School, where she was active in music and excelled
in scholastics.
She married Eugene J. Oswald of South Bend
and he preceded her in death 20 years ago. She volunteered as a
Gray Lady at an area hospital and had been a member of Epworth
Memorial Methodist Church. Gertrude was a loving and devoted
caregiver, an avid music enthusiast, and a talented artist and
seamstress. She filled her days quilting, sewing and painting and
took great joy in giving her crafts to those she loved,
especially her children and grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was
preceded in death by a brother, Robert Haas, of St.
Petersburg, Florida, and an infant sister. She is survived by a
son, Eric (Rick), and his wife, Bonnie, of South Bend, and their
two sons, Jason of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Christopher,
attending Purdue University; and a daughter, Krista Clark,
and her husband, John, of Greenville, Mississippi, and their two
children, Lauren of Washington, DC and John of Chicago, Illinois.
Private services will be held in Hickey
Funeral Homes and Cremation services, 3516 E. Jefferson
Boulevard, South Bend, IN 46615. Memorials may be made to the
American Diabetes Association, the American
Heart Association
or Ducks Unlimited.
