SOUTH BEND - Melvin H. Osler, 67, of 23206 U.S. 20, died at 10:20 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Osler retired in 1989 from the traffic department for the city of South Bend. He was born Jan. 17, 1926, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.

On July 26, 1947, in South Bend, he married Betty Cook. She survives with three daughters, Sheryle Brantley of Granger and Terri Egan and Penny Swartz, both of South Bend; four sons, Dennis and Kenneth of South Bend, Garry of Albuquerque and Steven of Mishawaka; 21 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Swigart of South Bend.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
