SOUTH BEND - Louis George Ort, 62, of 18472 Douglas Rd.,
passed away Tuesday morning, in his home, after a brief illness.
He was born March 7, 1934, in Niles, Mich., to Harold and
Genevieve June Ort. He married Shirley Brooks on Feb. 12, 1977.
Mr. Ort retired, in 1996, from AM General. He was a Korean US
Army veteran and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Surviving are his wife of South Bend; his
mother, Genevieve Steer of Niles, Mich.; a daughter, Cynthia
Cochran of Kalamazoo, Mich.; stepdaughters, Denise Birong of
Osceola, Ind., Darcel Esser of Seattle, Wash. and Diane Birdsall
of South Bend; a son, Eugene Ort of Niles; two stepsons, Damon
and Doug Brooks of South Bend; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren;
a brother, Jack of Niles; and sisters, Treva Vollman and Melvina
Thompson, also of Niles.
Funeral services will be held Friday, at 2:30 p.m., in Chapel Hill Funeral
Home, Osceola, Ind., with Rev. John Fisher and Father David
Porterfield officiating. Visitation will be today, from 3 to 5
and 6 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home chapel. Memorials may be
made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to Fellowship House.
Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
