Gene H. Oppenheim, 70, of Carriage
Hills Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday,
Jan. 7th, in St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center. He was born on
Feb. 5, 1928, in South Bend.
On March 22, 1958, in South Bend, he married
Marylyn From, who survives. He is also survived by three
sons, William J. (Jamie) of Indianapolis, Ind., Randy L. of
Granger, Ind., and Robert H. of Mishawaka, Ind.; two grandsons,
Bradley and Adam; and by two brothers, Larry D. of South Bend and
Bert N. of Cupertino, Calif. He was preceded in death by his
sister, Ethel Cahn in 1982.
Gene was a member of Temple Beth-El, was
past president of the Temple Brotherhood, was on the board of
directors of the Temple, was a member of the Morris Park Country
Club, the University Club at Notre Dame, the Purdue Alumni
Association and the St. Joseph Valley Purdue Alumni Association,
and was an Army veteran of World War II. From 1961 until 1971
Gene worked in the aerospace program in different areas of the
country. He retired from A.M. General in 1993 where he had been a
quality control engineer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Temple
Beth-El, with Rabbi Morley Feinstein officiating. Interment will
follow in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen, Ind. Memorial contributions
may be made to the Temple Beth-El Rose Levy From Memorial
Beautification Fund, to the American Heart Association, or to the
Humane Society of St. Joseph County. The Forest G. Hay Funeral
Home is in charge of arrangements.
