SOUTH BEND - Lucille (Spence) Opaczewski, 79, died October 8,
2009. Born on March 24, 1930, in Chicago, IL, to the late Berlin
and Eva Spence, she was also preceded in death by her husband,
Eugene Robert Opaczewski in 1972; a brother, LeRoy Spence; and by
a sister, Dorothy Spychalski. She was retired from Uniroyal and
had previously owned Lucy's Laundromat. She was a member of Holy
Family Church, VFW 1167, and local Union 65. She enjoyed Bingo
and loved to cook for family and friends. She is survived by four
daughters, Sandra (Edwin) Dominiak, Carla Leliaert and Linda
(James) Schimmel, all of South Bend, and Judith (Tom) Stevens of
Michigan; five grandchildren, Andrea Raymond, Ty Dominiak, Tracy
Leliaert, Kimberly Dominiak and Sarah Hess; nine
great-grandchildren; five sisters, Viola Hall of Florida, Ruby
Smith of Mishawaka, Marie Fredrick-Mountin and Jane Cox, both of
South Bend, and Evelyn Floyd of Ft. Wayne; and several nieces and
nephews. Our deepest appreciation to Dr. Ansari, Hospice House,
and to her nurse, Klavdia of Regency Place. Per Lucille's wishes,
her body has been donated to science. Danilewicz Funeral Service
is assisting the family. A memorial Mass will be held at a later
date. The Lord takes her home this day but she remains in our
hearts.
