SOUTH BEND - Helene Olund, 89, of South Bend died Sunday, December 30, 2007 in her residence. Mrs. Olund was born May 23, 1918, in South Bend, to the late Edward and Helen (Nemeth) Soos and was a lifetime area resident.

On January 14, 1945, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, as Helene Soos she married Robert H. Olund who died April 26, 1971. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Soos. She is survived by a daughter, Susan (John) Ulrich of South Bend; a son, Gary (Colleen) Olund of Granger, IN; five grandchildren, Shelly (Geoff) Ringer, Aaron Rosenfeld, Bryan Olund and Sean and Katie Ulrich; and two sisters, Elsie Conn and Isabelle Mechling both of South Bend. Mrs. Olund was a long-time member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 6 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. with Rev. Jeff Zell of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sean Robert Ulrich and Katharine Helene Ulrich College Fund c/o any branch of Teacher's Credit Union.
