SOUTH BEND - Arthur John O'Leary, 85, passed away
peacefully Sunday, January 6 in Our Lady of Peace Hospital.
Arthur was born on July 23, 1922, to Daniel and Lucy O'Leary in
Woodside, New York.
On June 29, 1940, Arthur married the former
Francis Marie Guesno, his loving wife of 67 years, who
survives him. Also surviving are his brother, John (Gloria) of
Venice, Florida; and his children, Bruce (Diane) of Asheville,
North Carolina, Richard (Linda) of South Bend; grandchildren,
Patricia (Brian) Ogle of Asheville, Megan (Chris) Leyes
of Boulder, Colorado, Erin of Boulder, Daniel of Chester,
California and Kevin of South Bend; and great-grandchildren,
Cori, Cale and Grace Ogle of Asheville, North Carolina.
Arthur was a proud World War II veteran. He
served in Pacific USS Register, WWII APD92 and rescued the crew
of the USS Indianapolis. He was a member of an Iron Workers Union
who took great pride working on Shea Stadium and the World Trade
Center. Arthur was originally from the East Meadow, New York and
relocated to South Bend in 1991. He was an avid Notre Dame
football, baseball, and basketball fan.
Friends may call from 2 to 4, and 6 to 8
p.m. on Wednesday, January 9 at McGann Hay, University Chapel
2313 E. Edison Rd. at Ironwood, South Bend. Funeral services will
also be held at the Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January
10. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park
Cemetery in South Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or
donor's choice.
