Sister Elizabeth Marie O'Connor CSC

SOUTH BEND - Sister Elizabeth Marie (Catherine O'Connor), CSC, 94, was born in Ogden, Utah, to the late Martin O'Connor and Elizabeth McMahon O'Connor. She was the second of four sisters, three of whom predeceased her, Mary Elizabeth, Sister M. Xavier and Sister M. Mercedes, both of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. She is survived by a niece, Louise Littlefield of Tennessee; a nephew, David Littlefield of California; and cousins, Jean (Al) Rollo of Wisconsin and Jack Bradley of Florida. Her many friends will miss her.

Sister gained her education attending Sacred Heart Academy, Ogden, UT, and earned a Normal Certificate to teach elementary school from Saint Mary of the Wasatch, Salt Lake City, UT. When she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1933, she was sent as a postulant to teach in the place of an ailing Sister at St. Theodore's in Chicago, IL. In 1935 Sister was sent to Saint Agnes' School, Los Angeles, CA, and her 42 years of teaching began. She taught in the West: California, Utah, Nevada and Idaho. The last years were spent as a tutor and an English teacher at Saint Joseph's High School, Ogden, UT. In 1977 Sister was in pastoral ministry at Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City, and in Ogden at Saint Joseph's Parish, where she added visiting the aging and elderly. In 2000 Sister came to Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, where she was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556. Reception of the body and wake services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, where friends may call at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
