SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Nancy H. O'Brien, 83, of Miami Rd.
passed away at 3:30 am Friday at Southfield Village. Mrs. O'Brien
was born on May 21, 1925 in St. Augustine, FL to the late George
A. and Virginia (Burdette) Henderson. She married
John W. O'Brien in St. Patrick's Parish in South Bend on July 20,
1946. He preceded her in death on August 4, 1995. Nancy has five
children surviving: Kathleen (George) Rochette of
Goodyear, AZ; Anne (Spike) Abernethy of South Bend;
Patricia (Mike) Cotter of Helena, MT; John J. (Linda) O'Brien of
Mishawaka; and Major (Kerni) O'Brien of Vandalia, MI; 12
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Sunday from 4-7pm at McGann
Hay Funeral Homes, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd. at
Ironwood and from 10-11:00 am Monday in the Chapel at Southfield
Village. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at
11:00 am Monday (August 18, 2008) in the Chapel at Southfield
Village, 6450 Miami Circle, South Bend, IN. Mrs. O'Brien
graduated from Greenbrier College in Greenbrier County, West
Virginia and attended George Washington University in Washington,
DC. She was a member of Junior League of South Bend, the
Children's Dispensary, her Bridge Club and the St. Joseph
Hospital Women's Auxiliary. Known to many simply as 'Nance', she
and 'Papa John' hosted many a gathering for their friends,
children, and children's' friends, including an annual St.
Patrick's Day bash at their home. She will be greatly missed by
one and all.
The family would like to thank the staff of Southfield Village for their kind, compassionate care over the past few years.
