Sister M. Lauretta Nugent CSC, 83, of Saint
Marys Convent, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the convent. She
was born Nov. 25, 1904 in Alexandria, Va. as Laura Bernadette
Nugent. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy
Cross, St. Marys on Feb. 14, 1938, having come from
Alexandria. She was received as a novice Aug. 15, 1938 and
professed her vows Aug. 15, 1940. She taught in elementary
schools conducted by the Sisters of Holy Cross from 1940 to 1948.
She received a degree in library science from the college of
Saint Mary of the Spring, Columbus, Ohio. She was assigned
librarian in the Medical Library of Mount Carmel Hospital,
Columbus, where she served from 1948 to 1972; served as librarian
at the former St. Marys Academy; at St. Marys Convent
from 1972 to 1979; and served as part time librarian at St. Marys
School, Alexandria from 1982 to 1985.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in
the Church of Loretto, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery,
St. Marys. Friends may call today and Thursday until services in
the convent parlor, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. today.
