SOUTH BEND - Leonard S. Nowinski, 80,
of Council Oak Drive, died after an illness at 7:05 p.m. Sunday
in his home. Mr. Nowinski retired in 1979 from Interstate Glass
Co. after 37 years of service as a sales engineer. He was born
April 26, 1916, in South Bend.
On Jan. 1, 1940, in South Bend, he married
Madelyn P. Dominick. She survives with two daughters,
Susan Y. Remmo of South Bend and Sandra A. Rousseve of
Granger; a son, L. Scott of Knoxville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren;
17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was founder of Inter-City Catholic
League, former athletic coach at Holy Cross Elementary and St.
Joseph's High School, construction and facility consultant for
Corpus Christi parish; he was past chairman of the board, served
on the board of directors and was past president, all of Sobieski
Federal Savings & Loan, and a member of Corpus Christi
Catholic Church. He attended Marquette University.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the
church. There will be no processional to the church. Burial will
be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call
from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Hospice of
St. Joseph County Inc.
