Daniel R. Nowicki Sr.

SOUTH BEND - Daniel R. Nowicki Sr., 62, of South Bend, passed away at 1:31 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010, in the Sanctuary of St. Joseph, following an extended illness. Daniel was born April 29, 1947, in South Bend, and had resided in the area his lifetime. On August 8, 1970, in South Bend, he married the former Rebecca C. Kovacs, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Wendy M. Nowicki of South Bend, IN; and one son, Daniel R. (Laura) Nowicki Jr. of South Bend, IN; along with three surviving grandchildren, Brooke Farkas, Madison Nowicki and Blake Nowicki. Also surviving are a sister, Cindy (Rich) DeNeve of Sturgis, MI; and two brothers, Ronald C. (Kathleen) Nowicki of South Bend and Donald (Kathy) Bella of South Bend; a stepbrother, Jerry (Pam) Bella of Mishawaka, IN. His parents, Charles R. Nowicki and Evelyn H. (Wroblewisi) Bella, and stepfather, Thomas Bella, preceded him in death. Mr. Nowicki worked at Claeys Candy, South Bend, IN, prior to his illness. He loved playing softball, fishing and gardening. He was an avid White Sox, Notre Dame football and Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed listening to the "Polish Hour" on the radio. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965 to 1968. A memorial Mass will be held in Holy Cross Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, with Fr. Brad Metz officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The HANLEY and SONS "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Nowicki family.
