Frances T. Nowak, 90, of Bremen, IN, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away at 7:08 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in the Bremen Health Care Center. Mrs. Nowak was born on January 22, 1912, in Manistee, MI. She retired from the Laundry Department at the University of Notre Dame, where she was employed for over twenty years.

On June 2, 1931, in St. Joseph Church, Manistee, MI, as Frances Gutowski, she married Matthew J. Nowak, who preceded her in death on September 19, 1988. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia (Ladd) Kovach of Bremen, Ind.; three grandchildren, John (Lisa) Kovach of New Carlisle, IN, Jim (June) Kovach of South Bend, IN, Joyce (Paul) Hahn of South Bend, IN; seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Mindy Hahn, Emily, Irina, Marina, Selina and Andrew Kovach. Her sister, Katherine Gutowski, and her five brothers, Edward, John, Alex, Michael and Jerome Gutowski, all preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. today, July 25, 2002, in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends called from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a combined St. Stanislaus parish and Altar Rosary Society Rosary was prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Nowak was a member of St. Stanislaus Parish, Altar and Rosary Society, and the Apostleship of Prayer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Association, c/o Fr. Herb Yost at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, or to St. Dominic's Church, Bremen, IN 46506.
