GRANGER - Stanley Felton Norman Jr., 76, passed away peacefully
at Regency Place late Monday. Stanley was born in Norfolk,
Virginia, on February 13, 1933, to Stanley Felton Norman Sr. and
Mary Deborah (Dudley) Norman. At an early age, he attained the
rank of Eagle Scout with two palms. He was an accomplished
musician, most notably a trumpeter in the Norfolk Fire Department
Band as well as the Maury High School Band, and the Bruce
Roberts' Orchestra. If you needed a good jazz trumpet player, he
was it. He graduated with honors from Maury High School, studied
at William & Mary Extension in Norfolk, Virginia, for a year,
and subsequently moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he became a
pre-med student at the University of Richmond. He decided not to
go into medicine after graduating with a degree in chemistry, but
obtained a master's degree in marketing at the University of
Richmond. He then joined International Minerals and Chemical
Corporation (IMC) in Skokie, Illinois, as a Product Sales
Manager. He and his family moved to Lincolnshire, Illinois, where
he continued playing the trumpet, especially in the Chamber Pot
Six or Seven Dixieland Band. Several years later, he purchased a
mineral and vitamin (for livestock and domestic animals) mixing
and packaging company on the south side of Chicago. In the
beginning, he acted as salesman, nutritionist, chemist, and
manager of the plant for several years. As the business grew, he
moved the company to Bremen, Indiana, where he continued as
president of the company, BFC Industries, until 1998, when he
sold the business and retired. He was preceded in death by a
daughter, Deborah N. Sandroni in August. Surviving are a son,
David F. (Staci-Marie) Norman; his daughter's husband, Michael
Sandroni; five grandchildren, Alex (Mary Walsh) Sandroni, LTGR,
Adam (Caitlin Fitzgerald) Sandroni, Christian Sandroni, MIDN,
Riley Norman, and Calla-Marie Norman. Services are on Saturday,
January 9th, at 10:45 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of
South Bend, 333 W. Colfax Ave., with visitation prior from
10-10:45 a.m. in the church. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer's
Association in lieu of flowers and condolences are being
accepted at www.McGannHay.com.
