Mary Theresa (Pupo) Norling, 83, of
Pokagon Street, died in the Countryside Place Nursing Home of the
accumulated ills of age. Mrs. Norling was born on March 18, 1918,
to Frank and Concetta Pupo in Spokane, Wash. She was
preceded in death by her parents, two older brothers and a
younger sister. She leaves behind her husband; a sister, Julia McCullough
of Spokane; and by nine nieces and nephews, and several
grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
On Jan. 30, 1948, Mary was married to
Bernard Norling, who survives. She lived in South Bend, Ind.,
from 1948 until her death. At various times Mary was employed in
the South Bend library system, was head librarian at St. Joseph's
High School, and taught the lower grades at both public and
parochial schools in South Bend.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church,
the Ladies of Notre Dame, the Bethany Guild, and various literary
discussion groups. An avid collector of antiques, she was for
years a member of the Questers and for two years served as
national secretary for that society. Mary will be mourned by
friends of her youth in Spokane, and by the many friends she made
in South Bend and environs.
A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Monday, Feb. 4, in the Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame, Ind.
Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from
2 to 5 p.m. today, Feb. 3, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N.
William Street. There will be a Rosary recited at 4 p.m. in the
funeral home. Arrangements will be handled by the Welsheimer
Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street.
