Robert J. Noble, 85, of Chester
Street, South Bend, Ind., died following an illness at 3:20 p.m.
on Sunday, Jan. 24, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Noble was born on
Nov. 25, 1913, in Woonsocket, S.D., to Ralph and Iva (Staley)
Noble, and had lived in Rapid City, S.D., and Decatur, Ill.,
prior to moving to South Bend in 1960.
On Nov. 9, 1946 in Pierre, S.D., he married
Harriet Stakke, who survives. He is also survived by two
sons, Jeffrey R. (Joan) Noble of Naples, Fla., and Gregory C.
Noble of South Bend; four granddaughters, Hillary and Sydney
Noble, both of Naples, and Angela and Emily Noble, both of South
Bend; a sister, Alida Lindaman of Visalia, Calif.
He retired in 1980 from Cole and Associates
as a civil engineer in the Sanitary Engineering Department and
had worked at Lawson-Fisher Associates until Christmas of 1998.
He was also employed in the Civil Corps of Engineers from 1940 to
1945. Mr. Noble was a member of Grace United Methodist Church,
Council Oak Lodge #745 F & AM, Royal Arch Masons, Chapter 29,
Knights Templar Commandry 13, South Bend Council #82 Royal and
Select Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, Orak Shine of
Michigan City, South Bend Shrine Club, Shrine Band, Elks Lodge
#235, South Bend Lions Club, and was a life member of the
American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Water Works
Association.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on
Friday in Grace United Methodist, 3012 S. Twyckenham Drive, with
Rev. Amy Covington officiating. Cremation will take place at the
Michiana Crematory. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today in
the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street. Memorial
contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children,
2211 North Oak Park Avenue, Chicago, Ill 60707; or to the Grace
United Methodist Church.
