SOUTH BEND - George Osborne "Wog" Niver Jr., 73,
left this world to be with his Father on October 14, 2008, at
3:15 am. "Wog," as his family and friends knew him, was
born August 11, 1935, to George O. Niver Sr. and Ann (Bertz)
Niver in Mishawaka, IN. He lived his life in South Bend, having a
career and retiring as major from The United States Army. George
was commander of the Service Battery 4th Battalion 333rd Field
Artillery, and was in the Special Forces as a Green Beret and
paratrooper. His father, George O. Niver Sr., preceded him in
death. George leaves behind his mother, Ann Niver; and two
sisters, Vera Burger and Sandra (Steve) Horvath;
eight nieces and nephews, Glenn Cook, Denise (David) Eades,
Tina (Gary) Stewart, Eric (Mary Heim) Burger, Tikkri Knarr,
David (Barb) Horvath, Jody (Roger) Church and Darrel
(Dawn) Burger; and many great- and great-great-nieces and
nephews.
A visitation will take place today, Oct. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Ave., South Bend, IN. A cremation will follow. The family requests in lieu of flowers that a memorial donation be made to The Pet Refuge.
