July 1, 1918 -Oct. 22, 1999

Benjamin E. Niezgodski, 81, of Parkway, died at 1:50 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

He was born on July 1, 1918, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Niezgodski retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad.

On May 14, 1991, in South Bend, he married Mary (Ruppel) Rutkowski, who survives. Also surviving is a stepdaughter, Barbara J. (Dave) Dinger of Berrien Springs, Mich.; a stepson, Ronald (Marian) Rutkowski of Cape Coral, Fla.; three grandchildren, David A. Dinger and Andrew Dinger, both of Berrien Springs, Mich., and Tami (Emil) Bronsfield of Cape Coral, Fla.; two sisters, Clara Janicki and Lucille Niezgodski, both of South Bend; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Niezgodski was preceded in death by four brothers, Albin, David, Leo and Norbert.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 3 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with entombment to follow in the St. Joseph Mausoleum in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Mr. Niezgodski was a past commander and life member of the American Legion Pulaski Post #357, a life member of Veteran of Foreign Wars #8748, Disabled American Veterans Chapter #39, Polish National Alliance Lodge #83, and the St. Joseph Young Men's Society.
