Leo Niespodziany
June 23, 1933 - May 16, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Leo Niespodziany, 74, passed away at Saint Joseph
Medical Center after battling heart disease. Leo was born to the
late Leon and Marie (Balcerzak) Niespodziany in South Bend,
Indiana. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judy
(Taylor) of Mishawaka; and their children, Jeff (Linda) of
Mishawaka, Stephen (Lia) of South Bend, Lynne (Rex) Rectenwal of
South Bend and Paul (Kristen) of Lakeville; and grandchildren,
Chelsea, Allison, Ben, Anthony, Luke and Sarah Niespodziany,
Elizabeth, Dylan, Elliot and Caroline Rectenwal, Michele and
Emily Fredlake. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Ann;
brother, Robert; and his sister, Evelyn (Marciniak). Leo served
in the Air Force from 1953 1956 and was a member of American
Legion Post 161. He married Judy on April 19, 1958, in St. Joseph
Catholic Church, South Bend. His hobbies and interests were
bowling, fishing, Euchre, wood-working and gardening. He was a
handyman and Notre Dame football fan. Leo worked most of his life
in the RV industry and retired from Gene Glick Properties in 1999
as head of the maintenance dept. Leo's family would like to give
a special thank you to all the staff at the
PCU and ICU of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend,
and especially to Dr. Ahmed Latief and his staff for their
exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the The American Heart Association or to St. Joseph Catholic
Church, South Bend, in his name. He was an organ donor and
cremated. Above all, Leo was the ultimate family man. He loved
his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. They were his
life. His spirit will forever be with us. Visitation will be from
4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street,
Mishawaka. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 21, at
10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 N. St. Louis, South
Bend, with Father Nate Wills, CSC, officiating the funeral Mass.
