SOUTH BEND - Frank J. Niemier, 77, of South Bend, passed
away after a brief illness on Sunday, May 25, 2008, in Hospice
House, South Bend. He was born on July 24, 1930, in South Bend,
to the late Melchior and Hattie (Smiegelski) Niemier, and
was a lifelong area resident.
On November 26, 1960, he married Bonnie Bedwell,
who survives. Along with his wife of 47 years, he is survived by
his daughter, Karen Gooding and her fiancé, Gene Chrobot
Jr. of South Bend; his son, James (Jan) Niemier of Zion, IL; six
grandchildren, Alaina, Adam, Allison, Abigail, Ashley and Andrew;
and his brother, Harry (Marcella) Niemier of South Bend. He was
preceded in death by his sister, Justine Polack. Frank
retired from Dodge Reliance in 1995 after 30 years of service. He
was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member
of American Legion Post #284, and was a parishioner of Holy
Family Catholic Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, in Holy Family Church,
where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass.
Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In
lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Center
for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court,
South Bend IN 46637.
